At Captain Michael VandenBos PS, our greatest priorities are to ensure that all of our students are safe when at school and that they arrive safely each and every day. The Durham District School Board uses a student absence reporting system called SchoolMessenger Safe Arrival (https://go.schoolmessenger.ca)
Please note, this system requires parents/guardians to create accounts to report absences online. Parents/guardians will have to download the mobile app (available on Android and iOS).
Additional information regarding the Safe Arrival program can be found at attendance.ddsb.ca.
Parents/guardians may choose to report their child's absence in advance, or before bell time for the current day in one of two ways:
1. Toll Free Number: 1-844-350-2646
2. Website: https://go.schoolmessenger.ca
Online registration is not necessary for those parents who wish to use the toll free number to call in absences. Both phone and online options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Student's homeroom teacher information is NOT part of the Safe Arrival system; however, parents/guardians can access this information through the Parent Portal (https://ddsbschools.ca/public/home/html)
If your child is going to be absent, please notify (using one of the two methods from above) before 8:00am. If you do not report the absence, then the safe arrival automated system will call you and you can enter the absence at that point. If you do not advise us of your child's absence, we will call to ensure that they are safe at home. If your child has an appointment during the school day, parents must come to the office, sign your child out and your child will be called down to the office. If at all possible, please send a note with your child so that the teacher will have the office awaiting your arrival.
Thank you for helping us ensure all of our children are safe.
