Congratulations to our Junior Team - 2019 Silver Medalists in Whitby!
The Battle of the Books is a fabulous partnership between public libraries and schools in Durham Region that supports childhood reading and literacy! Battle of the books allows students to explore new authors and titles in an encouraging environment with some friendly competition to keep interest piqued. It even overlaps with 6 Forest of Reading selections for students who wish to do both.
School teams can match wits with some of the best readers in town from schools throughout Durham!
Each year in April, the "Battle of the Books" teams from each school meet for the Semi-Battle competition. The top three teams from each division go on to the Final Battle to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. The gold medal winners are awarded a trophy for their school and go on to compete in the Regional Championship.
The Battle of the Books is hosted at two levels: the junior division is for students in grades 4 - 6 and the senior division is for students in grades 7 and 8.
Captain Michael VandenBos P.S. will be entering both a Junior and Senior team for next years competition. Each team can accommodate up to six members, so tryouts will happen in late September.
