The guidance department supports students in their navigation through secondary school and into their future. All DDSB schools are required to implement the Ontario government document "Creating Pathways to Success; An Education and Career/Life Planning Program for Ontario Schools." As mandated, students are required to complete and review their IPP twice each year.
The program framework is a four-step inquiry process built on four questions linked to the four areas of learning in education and career/life planning -
Making Decisions and Setting Goals
Achieving Goals and Making Transitions
The four questions in the frame work
- Who am I?
- What are my opportunities?
- Who do I want to become?
- What is my plan for achieving my goals?
During Semester 1 of each year, students in grades 9-12 will be provided with opportunities to explore their skills and interests, and research opportunities available to them post-secondary.
