Henry Street High School
Success Through Effort
Business Studies

For students who have a career focus in Business, Economics or the world of work, taking Business courses at Henry Street High School is an excellent option.  We offer a full range of business courses from grade 9 to 12.  An information processing course is offered in grade 9 (BTT 1O1) that teaches hands-on computer skills other business courses in grade 10 (BBI 2O1), 11 (BMI 3C1) and 12 (BDV 4C1) focus on practical skills such as Marketing and Entrepreneurship.
In grade 12 (BBB 4M1, IDC 4U1 & CIA 4U1) the focus is on preparation for post-secondary studies as the courses give a good introduction to what business students will be exposed to in their first year of a college or university Business/Commerce program.

The accounting courses in grade 11 & 12 are very practical.  It should be mentioned that our only course with a prerequisite is grade 12 accounting (BAT 4M1).  Students have to take grade 11 accounting (BAF 3M1) to enroll in the grade 12 course.  For students thinking of taking business at Durham College, accounting offers a great opportunity.  A student with at least 70% in BAF 3M1 and BAT 4M1 is eligible to get credit for the "Accounting I" course if they are studying a Business Administration program at Durham College.

Students who receive six high school business credits will receive a Business Certificate upon graduation.

Our dedicated teaching staff consists of Mr. Hanke, Ms. McRae, Mrs. Weima and Mr. Clark.  They have many years of experience teaching in these subjects and continue to stay current with business trends.

Some Business quotes to think about:

My model for business is The Beatles. They were four guys who kept each other kind of negative tendencies in check. They balanced each other and the total was greater than the sum of the parts. That's how I see business: great things in business are never done by one person, they're done by a team of people.
Steve Jobs

The entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity.
Peter Drucker

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
Colin Powell

Success or failure in business is caused more by the mental attitude even than by mental capacities.
Walter Scott

Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.
Andy Warhol

Fortune does favor the bold and you'll never know what you're capable of if you don't try.
Sheryl Sandberg

The type of person you are is usually reflected in your business. To improve your business, first improve yourself.
