At Donald A. Wilson, we have developed a tradition of working with all members of our school community. We understand the difference that engaged parents and guardians can make to our students, and ultimately to student success. We welcome parent involvement in our schools and encourage parents and guardians to have open, productive communication with your child's teacher and school. We also welcome and encourage parents and guardians to become involved in our School Community Council (SCC), which provide a vital link between school, home and community. Please visit our SCC section and page on this website. The SCC is a forum for parents, guardians and other members of the community to contribute to school life. We greatly value the input and advice provided by parents at our SCC.

The school board's mission is for "success in learning to meet the challenges of the future" and the DDSB continues to focus on the use of technology as an effective tool for teaching and learning. At the same time, ensuring safe, effective and productive use of mobile devices must remain our focus. At Wilson, we will continue to encourage students to use these devices in a positive way, to aid in learning, not to disrupt teaching and learning.

Technology provides a means for school communities to find out more about what is going on in our schools. To stay on top of DDSB's news, highlights and events, please regularly visit www.ddsb.ca or follow the school board on Twitter @DurhamDSB.

Important School Information

TRANSPORTATION: When busses are cancelled and schools remain open.

If your child is bussed:

  • If you are not able to make alternate arrangements for your child to attend school, parents/guardians are required to inform the school via Safe Arrival phone line, app or website prior 9:00 AM on the day of school.  Please select the "Bus Cancellation" code when creating an absence.
  • Your child's absence will be entered as a "Grant Day" that will not affect perfect attendance.  This code should only be used on days when busses are cancelled in your school zone.
  • NOTE: If parents/guardians do not excuse the absence of their child, the system will generate calls home asking to verify the absence.

If your child is not bussed:

  • If you choose to keep your child at home due to weather conditions - you are still required to call the Safe Arrival line prior to 9:00 AM. Please enter the code that is appropriate for the absence ie "Illness" or "Appointment".  The "Bus Cancellation" code should only be used on days when busses have been cancelled in your school zone and you would prefer to keep your child at home due to weather conditions.

ATTENDANCE

Please use the Safe Arrival phone line, website or cell phone app to report an absence.  You have up to 9:00AM for the current day.

Safe Arrival phone line:   1-844-350-2646.

Parents will receive automatic notifications if you do not report the absence prior to 9:00AM. Please listen to the automated message completely and use your key pad to update the system appropriately and end the call.  Wait for a confirmation number at the end to ensure your absence was submitted.

SIGN-OUTS

If a parent/guardian signs out their child, the student must leave school property.  Students cannot remain on school property (our field included) to watch sporting events, work in the cafeteria, school library etc.

NOTES

When providing your student with a note, please fill it out with the name of the student, date, reason and signature with contact method. Clear communication to attendance staff will help avoid any calls home to verify.

TRIPS

It is the student's responsibility to have their trip waiver, forms, and money in on time for the events. Students cannot be excused by a parent, the day of, for a trip or event when the student has not submitted the requirements on time. If a student misses a trip, no refunds will be provided.

You may pay for a trip with School Cash Online. Students may pay for a trip using exact cash only in the main office.
