The program involves mathematical explorations through multiple highly engaging activities. Students collaborate to solve interesting mathematical challenges, consolidate their previous learnings, correct misconceptions and expand their thinking. There is a strong digital component to the program, as students utilize desmos and other technologies to further their mathematical understanding.
Secondary schools in consultation with the elementary schools, will evaluate current grade 8 students who have selected applied level math for the 2017/2018 year. Ideal candidates will have shown indicators of potential success or will be recommended by current elementary school administration. Parents of interested students may discuss their child's suitability for this program with the home school administration.
Successful candidates of this program will earn a credit in Learning Strategies (GLS1O1) and will be placed in the grade 9 academic level mathematics for the 2018/2019 academic year. This program is offered at Maxwell Heights SS in Oshawa, GL Roberts CVI in Oshawa, D. A. Wilson SS in Whitby and JC Richardson CI in Ajax.
RAMP and the Small Group Physical Education courses run Monday through Friday. Courses commence Wednesday July 4, 2018 and conclude Friday July 27, 2018. Summative evaluations will be held on Thursday July 26th and Friday July 27th, 2018. Attendance is MANDATORY on these days – no changes or exceptions can be made. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm on Friday July 27th, 2018.
Students enrolled in an Accelerated course CANNOT take any other course in any other delivery model during the duration of the Accelerated Course Program (i.e. Learn@Home, eLearning, Credit Recovery).
There is no fee for this program.
