The Durham District School Board implemented a new attendance management system
in the summer of 2018.
SCHOOLMESSENGER® offers parents/guardians the ability to report student absences to their child's school via phone, internet or mobile app as well as receive notifications for both attendance and non-attendance related purposes.

Parents/guardians who wish to report absences
online or through the Appwill have to create a new account with
This software is not the same Safe Arrival
software used in previous years. Parent/guardian user accounts cannot be transferred to the new system.
Please follow the steps below to set up a new account.
Your SchoolMessenger® Account can be set up in 3 ways:
- Open your browser and go to go.schoolmessenger.ca
- Download the SchoolMessenger app from the Google Play Store
- Download the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store
- Sign Up for an account on the website (go.schoolmessenger.ca).
- Use the same email address that the school has on record for you.
TIP: If you are not sure which email address we have on file for you, please login to the Parent Portal and view your contact information on the Parent Contact Information tab.

- Create your password; for security reasons, passwords must contain at least one number, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter and must be at least 6 characters.
- Verify your account by following the instructions in the email that is sent to you.
This login information is for parents to report student absences and should not be shared with your child. Please ensure that your login information is protected.
Reporting Absences Online or through the SchoolMessenger® App
Login to the app or website using your email address and the password that you created in the Sign Up step above. If your email address is associated with at least one child in a school that is actively using SafeArrival, you will see the ATTENDANCE option on the menu. This is shown at the top of the screen on the website or in the top left corner of the mobile apps.
Please note: Parents can continue to report absences through the automated telephone system without creating an account. The automated telephone number (1-844-350-2646) will not change.
The Parent Portal is available to all DDSB Parents/Guardians to view student homeroom assignments, attendance history, midterm and final marks, view parent contact information and to complete the Returning Student Verification Form.

The Parent Portal also provides links to other parent systems including SchoolCash and SchoolMessenger which require a separate parent account.
