2018 Welcome Back — Students, Families and Staff

This school year we are so excited to welcome back returning DDSB students, and to welcome new DDSB students to our community. Once again, we are working hard to ensure all our students have every opportunity to achieve success.

This year we sought out parent/guardian, student, DDSB staff, and community voice by asking "What is important to you at the DDSB?" The answers shared have shaped our core priorities and focus. This will help us to set our direction as a leading-edge school board, now and in the future.

We've established six strategic priorities that will drive us forward:

• Success   • Equity   • Well-Being   • Engagement   • Leadership   • Innovation

So what does this mean? Review our Multi-Year Strategic Plan 2018-2021, Ignite Learning, and read through the 2018-2019 Annual Information Calendar. It's jam-packed with information that will help students, parents, and guardians alike to make a smooth transition back to school.

On behalf of DDSB staff and our Board of Trustees, I welcome all students – younger and older, new and returning – to our schools. But an extra-special welcome goes out to our Kindergarten students who will experience school for the first time. At the DDSB, we pride ourselves on making our schools welcoming and inclusive for all our students and members of our school communities. The diversity within the community makes the DDSB stronger, and our commitment to equity and inclusiveness is a priority.

2018-2019 promises to be a year full of growth, learning and success for our 70,000+ students. Our Year 2 Leveraging Digital Strategy will see more students receiving Chromebooks and iPads during this phase. This directly supports innovative learning by building skills for a globally complex world.

Parents and guardians also play a significant role when they are actively involved in their child's education. We encourage parents and guardians to have ongoing, open, productive communication with their child's teacher and school. Consider becoming involved with your School Community Council (SCC), which provides a vital link among school, home, and community.

Please accept my best wishes for a successful and memorable 2018-2019 school year.

Together, We Are DDSB!
